Turn screen time into city movement.
404 Places is a Gothenburg beta for a location-based adventure game where players go outside, discover real places, solve on-site puzzles, and unlock transparent rewards from local partners.
We are building a commercial game platform around three things that should naturally work together:
- Players get a reason to leave the sofa.
- Partners get real-world attention, not just digital impressions.
- Cities get a playful tool that can encourage safe movement, curiosity, and local engagement.
Players come to the place. Not the other way around.
Every partner can become a Partner Node in the game — a visible location on the map marked ✦ 200 OK.
Players travel there physically, solve a puzzle near the location, and unlock a partner reward. The reward model is transparent: the partner decides what is offered, how many rewards are available, when the campaign runs, and who can claim it.
- No vague "brand exposure."
- No random promise.
- No pay-to-win mechanic.
Just a clear loop:
You appear on the game map
Your venue becomes a visible Partner Node for active players in the Gothenburg beta. Players see that your location is part of the game world — not as an ad banner, but as a place worth visiting.
Players must be there in person
A reward is unlocked through location verification and an on-site puzzle — not a generic discount code that can be shared online. Real visits, not empty clicks.
You control the offer
Coffee, discount, product sample, limited drop, event ticket. You control quantity, timing, and campaign rules. Rewards are deterministic and transparent.
Measurable local engagement
How many players visited, when they came, how many rewards were claimed, whether players returned. One simple question: did the game create real movement toward my location?
Players also earn Reward Points at your location.
Every puzzle solved at a Partner Node drops Reward Points — an additional in-game currency backed by a real SEK fund. This gives players a reason to return to your location even when they have already claimed your partner reward.
HOW REWARD POINTS WORK →Adding real-world value to location-based play
404 Places takes the familiar idea of location-based gaming and connects it to local discovery, physical movement, partner-controlled rewards, and player-shaped evolution.
Players explore their city through puzzles, portal runs, and real places on the map. Partners become part of that journey through visible locations, controlled rewards, and measurable visits.
The game also introduces a more engaged community model. Players can help each other with smaller questions, share useful discoveries, and earn recognition for being helpful. Beyond support, they can also influence the future direction of the game through story suggestions, voting, and community-driven choices.
This creates a living local game world: the city becomes the board, real places become mission points, partners become part of the experience, and players help shape how the adventure evolves.
Make young people want to go outside.
A lot of digital products compete to keep people sitting still. 404 Places is built with the opposite intention: use the phone as a reason to move.
The game should make it feel natural to walk to a place, solve something, discover a local venue, meet the city in a new way, and feel rewarded for doing it.
This matters because youth movement is already a documented public-health challenge. Children and teenagers are moving less, sedentary time is increasing, and traditional sports do not reach everyone.
404 Places is not a medical solution and should not be presented as one. But it can become a scalable, testable, youth-friendly movement layer — relevant for local businesses, municipalities, schools, youth organizations, public-health actors, and investors who care about measurable social value.
